One innovative feature of the website is that each individual venue listed becomes a micro site within the main site, all the details are recorded and once members start fishing there, a catch report for that specific venue is recorded for all other members to see.

Whispers from the bank

Another feature of the site coming soon will be the ability for members to upload their catches live from the bank (whispers from the bank) using their mobile phone. In this way, their session can be followed by their friends, wherever they are.

Fishing Competitions

There will be many competitions running with various prizes to be won. From trophies to respected brands of fishing tackle. All of the registered members on the website will be entered automatically once they land an eligible verified catch.

Stratford on Avon – Launched today, is the new Driving Instructor app for the iPhone, developed by Motopilot Rider Coaching, set to make big changes in the way driving instructors operate, and bringing their industry right up to date.

The app provides a complete solution for driving instructors, which takes advantage of iPhone’s built-in accelerometer and its global positioning system (GPS) to provide a repeatable method of giving instant and accurate feedback to students when performing controlled (emergency) stops and eco driving tasks. The app also gives the instructor an easy way of recording changes in students’ competency levels as their driving lessons progress. A simple road sign quiz is included as an additional educational tool.

At the end of each lesson, an email that comprises details of the route taken, brake training tests performed and any eco driving exceedances is automatically sent to the student. A list of all the changes in competency level is included in the email so that the student has a permanent record of their progress.

The app’s main features are:

• Eco Driving – Instant feedback as to how smoothly the student is driving which dramatically improves fuel economy as well as anticipation and planning skills. Exceedances are viewable in Google Earth ©.

• Brake Training – Compares student’s controlled stops to the Highway Code stopping distance table which means no more guesswork as to a pass or fail. Full graph and results given for each test. The student’s efforts can even be compared to the competency of an expert.

• Competencies – Can be changed as the student progresses from lesson to lesson. All Driving Standards Agency (DSA) competencies are included and competency changes are e-mailed to the student at the end of each lesson.

The Driving Instructor iPhone app is the brainchild of Motopilot Rider Coaching’s principal, Duncan Mackillop: “The idea was first conceived because of the profound lack of ability of most drivers to use the brakes properly. I reasoned that if learner drivers had a way of really understanding how good or bad their braking performance was at the early stages of their training, then this would remain with them throughout their driving career,” explains Duncan.

Although the Highway Code gives a clear table of the expected performance for controlled stops, until now there has been no way of relating this data to real world situations. The app gives both the instructor and the learner driver real time and accurate information on the student’s use of the brakes.

A survey recently undertaken by Holidays-Direct has shown the most important factors when choosing a family holiday abroad.  Five categories were chosen as the most important family travel factors.

Customer booking representatives have asked holidaymakers what the most important factors were for choosing a family holiday, by numbering the most relevant options from 1 to 5, with 1 being the most important.

Interestingly, the survey has shown that ‘Good reputation of agency’ came a very close second to ‘Safety of a resort’, which tops the most important factor for booking family holidays.

Stratford upon Avon, UK – The Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic (Total Control ARC) in Stratford upon Avon has officially opened this week. The American champion rider, Lee Parks, created his unique take on motorcycle training in 1994. It is now well established in the USA and, after some test events, it is now available in the UK.

The term “Superadvanced” was specially coined to describe the type of training given at the clinic and to set it apart from what it is often confused with: “Advanced (or Enhanced) Riding”.

In the UK, Advanced Riding is where a policeman or a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents instructor, or an Institute of Advanced Motorists instructor would take someone out onto the roads and show them how they can minimise hazards through using “The System”.

“This is not what we do,” explains Duncan Mackillop (Principal of Total Control in the UK) who delivers the Superadvanced motorcycle training itself. “What we teach here is fundamentally different to the methods taught in every other riding school in the country. They teach, essentially, about planning for and managing the hazards that you would encounter every day when out riding your bike.”

Although Total Control does cover how riders interact with the environment, especially the management of corners, it also covers, in much greater depth, how the rider and machine interact. It is very difficult to cover these elements in depth out on the road as the environment is ever changing and the feedback loop between rider and machine changes with the environment. Total Control provides a consistent environment in the form of its training ground, so that the feedback between rider and bike is more obvious. This feedback that results from the consistent environment, is at the heart of the practical element of Total Control.

Another major difference is that, with “The System”, riders have little opportunity to discover how their mental state has such a profound effect on their riding. The Total Control Clinics give a series of short lectures between the practical exercises, that show how mental states such as fear, can be detrimental to the safe conduct of their ride due to their effect upon certain factors such as throttle control, body position and traction. The lectures also give a rider a much better understanding of how the inputs they make to the bike affect their ability to remain in control.

“As we say at the beginning of the clinic, Total Control teaches you the “real stuff” that you just can’t learn in school. i.e. you learn a lot from normal Advanced Riding schools, but with Total Control, you begin to understand the really important things that simply cannot be learnt out on the road. If “The System” is represented by Advanced training, then Total Control is represented by Superadvanced training, as it expands upon what you have already learned from Advanced training,” adds Duncan.

Total Control ARC recommends that every rider get hold of a copy of Total Control: High-Performance Street Riding Techniques by Lee Parks, which is the second-biggest selling motorcycle-riding self-help book in the US, second only to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Guide To Motorcycling Excellence, (the American version of the UK’s Roadcraft – The Police Riders Guide to Better motorcycling).
