Passion for Life at the Grand Palais in Paris

Passion for Life at the Grand Palais in ParisThe Salon des Artistes Indépendants will host the Passion for Life art exhibition in support of the Institut Curie at the Grand Palais: Together in the fight against cancer, 15 international artists will exhibit their artwork.

The next group art exhibition Passion for Life will be held from November 21-30, 2008 at the Grand Palais in Paris, in support of the Institut Curie. Following several art exhibitions in Italy, Mexico and the Principality of Monaco, Passion for Life has been offered the opportunity to exhibit in Paris, France, under the banner of the prestigious Société des Artistes Indépendants. Following the invitation of the President of the Society, Mrs. Franckie Tacque, and her Board of Directors, 15 international artists will exhibit their art for a humanitarian cause: the fight against cancer.

A small group of innovative artists, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Camille Pissarro and the founders Albert Dubois-Pillet, Odilon Redon, Henri-Édmond Cross, Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, founded the Salon des Indépendants in 1884. In a movement of defiance, these Néo-Impressionist painters, tired from being refused by the juries of the official Salon, decided to create their own Salon - the Salon des Indépendants - with the fundamental principle of “no jury, nor reward”.

One of the objectives of the Passion for Life program is to collect funds for the fight against cancer. The program was founded by Antoine Gaber, impressionist artist painter and cancer researcher in drug development mostly for cancer therapies. In each country where the Passion for Life exhibition has been held, the funds raised have been entirely donated to a charitable organization or a pre-selected, local association. In this upcoming event in November in Paris, Passion for Life will be supporting the Institut Curie. Founded in 1909 based on a conceptual model created by Marie Curie, the Institut Curie now brings together 2000 researchers, doctors and health care professionals, all working with the same aim: to find cures for cancer with speed. As a recognized Foundation with public support since 1921, the Institut Curie aims to make quickly available the most recent advancements in research with a multi-disciplinary approach, whilst bringing the best available treatments to cancer patients.

Learning content industry’s future under discussion at DECOM 2008, a key European event in Italy

The future of the learning content industry – in particular, its ability to adapt to, and exploit fully, a new generation of educational content production, management, sharing and distribution models – is the subject of a top level conference, hosted jointly by Giunti Labs, one of the leading learning and mobile content management solution providers, and the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG). The conference, on Digital Educational Content Marketplaces (DECOM 2008, www.decom2008.com), is being held at Giunti Labs’ headquarters in Sestri Levante, on 23rd October.

Delegates comprise top level executives from the learning content industry, international publishing firms, corporate training providers and academic stakeholders engaged in both publishing and open courseware initiatives in schools, universities and corporate training, together with Government policy makers throughout Europe.

The results of delegates’ deliberations will be summarised in a shared document – ‘The Sestri DECOM Declaration’. This will be presented to the EU Commission as a set of suggested policy actions to support a transition towards digital content marketplaces for educational publishing in Europe.

The event is sponsored by Cegos, Plateau, Cisco, IBM, AxMediaTech - AXMEDIS and SIF Association.

“Today’s streamlined publishing and distribution models for educational textbooks and learning materials, conceived in the age of non-digital broadcasting and mass distribution, are coming of age,” commented Fabrizio Cardinali, CEO of Giunti Labs and joint chair of ELIG.

“After a time where online learning contents had to be produced bundled within limited delivery options - determined by the few LMS and VLE platforms in the market - the advent of open standards and architectures have unleashed learning contents. De facto, this has allowed the ‘un-bundling’ of content production from the delivery platform of choice.

“Today, powerful digital repositories and learning content management architectures can be added seamlessly, interoperating with existing Open Source - such as Sakai and Moodle - or vendor delivery solutions. This either supports platform migration options or adds rich, virtual and mobile media to existing corporate or academic learning infrastructures - making learning experiences much more personalised and engaging,” he added.

Cardinali believes that contemporary educational publishing needs to adopt such open and standard architectures, formats and distribution models - effectively blending free and published content offerings through innovative business models - so as not to leave anybody behind in the global need for more accessible and sustainable educational resources.

“This represents a generational opportunity for educational content producers,” he said. “It will reward those who are smart enough to catch the innovation wave, reshape their models and, so, result in sustainable business paradigms and models.

“Publishers and content producers who fail to evolve in the new digital content marketplace risk emulating many of their former colleagues in the music publishing industry. That industry has seen many stakeholders lose their copyrights and legacy products, while struggling to adapt their business models to the tunes-orientated distribution paradigms which hit the music industry during the digital revolution of the late ‘90s.”

“The European Learning Industry Group has made the transformation of educational publishing one of its key focus areas in 2008,” said Richard Straub, Secretary General of ELIG. “ELIG is uniquely positioned to bring together all aspects of the value-net with players from the infrastructure, architecture, software and content sectors to facilitate the envisioning of new models of value creation for the industry.”

After keynote speeches and ‘best practice’ presentations by leading international publishing companies McGrawHill, Elsevier, Bertlesmann and Pearson, and key OpenCourseware Initiatives from MIT, the Open University UK and Delft University, DECOM 2008 will include a series of open discussion tables on key needs and objectives for Europe’s educational publishing sector.

Participation in the DECOM Workshop is by invitation only. To request an invitation, please contact the event manager, Minna Leikas (m.leikas@giuntilabs.com). Requests must indicate your affiliation with, and engagement in, this topic. Places will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

This is why, following the launch of Lively, the new 3D world from Google, Lounge-tek has created a virtual shop window not just as a showcase of a range of situations but to let customers to check it out for themselves. Using their own avatar, clients can try out the Lounge-book reclining in their armchair, sofa or bed, while sitting in a classroom or waiting room. Or members of the online community can use the digitized object to their heart’s desire as a furnishing accessory for their own virtual environment.

The product’s digitalization is state-of-the-art; the company worked closely with a specialist 3D web design company to achieve a surprisingly vivid level of realism.

The decision to open the Lounge-tek “virtual shop window” on Lively is a further stage in the company’s innovative strategy which even encompasses the actual marketing and presentation of the product.

Currently 85% of direct sales are generated abroad, from a diverse client base stretching as far as the Americas and Australia. This enables it to launch the product to an increasingly vast and diverse potential market, without the physical restrictions of a conventional sales network and at an extremely low cost.

The new 3D Internet frontier is upon us and Lounge-tek aims to harness these technological opportunities. By spearheading the evolution towards visual content representation using tools reinventing the very nature of the Internet, Lounge-tek aims to transform the standard browsing experience into an interactive delight. The company is thus contributing to a scenario in which - thanks to the 3D web - real, simulated and imaginary objects merge to form a kind of extended world which opens up a fascinating and rich avenue of opportunity, not just for marketing but also for the development of innovative business models.

Lounge-book is the innovative notebook support to be used in total ease by laptop PC users home and away. A new digital-life experience which integrates technology and domestic habits, affording users the full freedom of portable technologies.

Lounge-tek was established to produce and sell the Lounge-book. Since its inception, the company has built up a reputation for optimizing organizational processes using the finest web technologies. The firm’s investments are channelled not so much into producing “special effects” but into providing new tools for evaluating the product’s usefulness and enhancing its overall value. This involves finding the best way to transfer the solution to the customer at the lowest possible price.

Generix Group Part Of Gartner Magic Quadrant 2008 (Y076)

Chicago, September 19, 2008 (word count: 471)
Generix Group announced that it is part of the Magic Quadrant 2008 dedicated to B2B platform providers. Generix Group is well-known for its performance capability and its vision as a provider of inter- and intra-company collaborative solutions in the rapidly expanding B2B gateway market. The Magic Quadrant is published by Gartner, a leading specialist in information technology consulting and analysis firm.

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant report offers a visual snapshot of the players in a specific market, classified according to their view of how the market will evolve and their ability to implement this view. In its 2008 analysis of the “B2B Gateway” independent software vendor market, Gartner has selected 14 world-class publishers on the basis of a number of criteria, including the positions of the independent software vendors in their markets, their views of their markets and their abilities to act in response to these. The selected vendors must have a turnover above 10 million USD and an international presence.

A historic player for EDI/EAI solutions with its Influe brand, Generix Group has been selected because of its position in the market, the functional coverage of its TradeXpress solution, and its European customer portfolio. TradeXpress is a B2B integration platform for handling large volumes, designed to reduce administration costs and speed up the business process by automating exchanges all along the value chain. TradeXpress, applying web technologies, can integrate 100% of inter-company commercial applications and partners, regardless of the acquisition or publication means.

Paolo Malinverno and Benoît Lheureux, Gartner analysts and the authors of the Magic Quadrant 2008 report, explain that “the B2B Gateway market is booming, reflecting the quantitative and qualitative changes in users’ expectations for optimized inter-company exchange applications, for the management of greater numbers of and increasingly complex B2B projects.” Michel Jardat, Alliances and Strategy Director for Generix Group, adds, “the Generix Group inclusion in the Gartner Magic Quadrant B2B Gateway survey is a real acknowledgement of the comprehensiveness and the quality of our TradeXpress solution as well as of our ability to implement it. Faced with increasing expectations for conformity, the globalization of exchanges, and competition pressure, companies more than ever need reliable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions for their inter-company management. Our objective is now to consolidate our international positions.” Belron Carglass, DHL, and Dachser are among the most recently added references.
